Mirosław J. Skibniewski

Dr. Mirosław J. Skibniewski is a Professor of Construction Engineering and Project Management in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to his current appointment he served for 20 years as a faculty member and later also as associate provost at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He received his M.Eng. degree from Warsaw University of Technology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University. Prof. Skibniewski is also an alum of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education Management Development Program. Prior to his academic career he worked as an engineering professional with the 135 years-old Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory, a nationwide construction engineering consulting firm in Pennsylvania (later renamed to Intertek Professional Services Industries, Incwww.psiusa.com) where he led structural and construction safety investigations, design quality reviews, structural testing, construction claims reviews, value engineering, and forensic engineering projects.

Dr. Skibniewski served on the National Academy of Engineering USA-Germany and USA-Japan Frontiers in Engineering committees, American Society of Civil Engineers' Robotics and Field Sensing Committee, Information Technology Committee, Intelligent Computing Committee, Modularization Committee of the Construction Industry Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, and on the National Academy of Sciences Assessment Panel for construction automation and computer integrated construction programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors and is Past President of the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction. Prof. Skibniewski is also the Editor-in-Chief of Automation in Construction, an international research journal published by Elsevier, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers of Engineering Management, an international journal published by Springer, as well as a member of editorial boards of over twenty other peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

Among Prof. Skibniewski’s past honors are the U.S. National Science Foundation Presidential Investigator Award, the American Society of Civil Engineers Walter L. Huber Research Prize, and the Tucker-Hasegawa Research Award from the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction.

Shang-Hsien (Patrick) Hsieh

Dr. Hsieh is a Professor in the Computer-Aided Engineering Division of Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei, Taiwan. He is currently serving as Chairman of Department of Civil Engineering in NTU and Director of the Research Center for Building & Infrastructure Information Modelling and Management in the Department. He is a member of Board of Directors of the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering since 1999 and served as the society’s President from 2006 to 2008. He has a wide range of research interests, including engineering & construction simulations, engineering information & knowledge management systems, innovative engineering education, parallel and distributed engineering computing, earthquake engineering and structural dynamics, and object-oriented software development.
Dr. Hsieh received his B.S. in civil engineering in 1985 from NTU, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from Cornell University, U.S.A. in 1990 and 1993, respectively. From 1993 to 1995, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University, U.S.A. He joined the Department of Civil Engineering at NTU in 1995 and had since served as the Chief of Extracurricular Activities Section in Office of Student Affairs, Vice-Chairman of Department of Civil Engineering, and Deputy Dean for Office of International Affairs.

Professor Heng Li

Professor Heng started his academic career from Tongji University since 1987. Heng then researched and lectured at the University of Sydney, James Cook University and Monash University before joining Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During this period, Heng have also worked with engineering design and construction firms and provided consultancy services to both private and government organizations in Australia, Hong Kong and China. Professor Heng has conducted many funded research projects related to the innovative application and transfer of construction information technologies, and he has published 2 books, more than 300 journal papers in major journals of his field and numerous conferences papers in proceedings.

Professor ChangSu Shim

Dr. Changsu Shim is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Urban Design and Studies at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea. He has been appointed to be a President of Korean Institute of BIM (KIBIM). His area of expertise comprises BIM-based for bridge design, construction and maintenance, composite structures, digital twin technology, prefabricated bridge construction, and 3D concrete printed structures. Dr. Shim received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Seoul National University. He has published more than 90 journal papers, 15 books, and numerous conference papers. He currently is a chief of 6-year (2020-2025) large research project on “Development of smart construction technology”, funded by Korean government and cooperation with University of Cambridge.
